Well we couldn’t be bothered moving last night so ordered room service which was pretty tragic and managed to stay up until about 9pm. There’s something about 2am though – Auslec decided to ring Nigel and someone in Sydney rang my mobile. We managed to get back to sleep and phone’s will be on silent tonight.
So – all up by 0700 and was about 0900 before we left the room – we jumped on the tube and join the chaos that was morning on the underground in London. Changing station we were hit with the inevitable ‘full train’ situation and taught the kids to go in backwards and just push. Face up against the glass for the rest of the journey we made our way into Covent Gardens and searched in vain for a creperie for breakfast. We did however stumble across one shop I have been wanting to visit since Peter told me about it years ago! Stanfords. The boys stopped for their first hot chocolate for the day while I raced around the shop in a flurry trying to find things I could carry home in a suitcase that wouldn’t weigh much!
We then found our way to Covent Gardens and wandered around the shops there before stopping for an 11am breakfast again…. Nigel fought hard with excuses for why we couldn’t enter any of the gorgeous little shops but as usual he lost. His victory was yet to come. We filled up on cherries and berries from the fresh fruit market to get some movement happening in areas we don’t need to discuss. Koji’s victory was yet to come too.
We walked down to Leicester square to visit M&M world – a massive 4-story shop filled with everything M&M – on arrival our hands were filled with green M&Ms – which sort of put us off buying any as we’d just had breakfast. The kids looked at everything though and got themselves a t-shirt each. (Sad I know)
From here it was a real treat for the kids – off to the highly renowned Trocadero complex – an awesome way to spend an afternoon in London on a rainy day the ads said. Well I think it took us 32 seconds exactly to be back at the front door and out of there. Nothing was in there anymore except a tacky Asian cartoon shop and some other rubbish. Sega world used to be there when Nigel & I last visited, but that was shut down. Ripley’s Believe it or Not was next door but as we’d seen that in Orlando we figured there was no need to go again.
Lunch / Dinner stop was at the Rainforest café where you dine in a darkened jungle setting and gorillas have ‘fits’ every 10 minutes – where they try and recreate them in their natural environment.
It was here that Nigel got his revenge and my world came crashing down – I bent down to tie my shoelace, and heard a cracking noise – I knew immediately what it was. A hot flush came over me as I reached into my coat pocket and pulled out my Mastercard. It was cracked across one end!!!!!!!!!! Exploding laughter filled the air as my situation was told with much enthusiasm to the kids who had no idea what horrors this could mean for me. I was shattered. The next store I got to I tested it out and “YES!!” it still worked – but any further cracking and I would be reliant on Nigel for funds….. it was as close to a nightmare that I would ever be…….
So…… We then went to see if we could get in to see Michael Jackson’s Broadway show but no luck.
A quick wander around Piccadilly Square and we were on route to the British Museum to visit the Egyptian Mummies. The building was incredible and we spent all the time there in this one area. The kids loved it and got to see real life mummies “creepy and different” were Koji’s words
Today we tried: Pepperoni packet chips
Tip of the day: Teach children underground etiquette (crowded tube + Koji after lots of berries = very bad smell in clastraphobic environment = embarrassing situation.)
